Food, Glorious Food
'Is it worth the waiting for, if we live till eighty-four, all we ever get is GRUEL.
Everyday we say a prayer, will they change the bill of fare, still we get the same old GRUEL.
There's not a crust, not a crumb can we find, can we beg, can we borrow or cadge. But there's
nothing to stop us from getting a thrill when we all close our eyes and imagine...
Food, glorious food..we're anxious to try it. Three banquets a day, our favorite diet!
Just picture a great big steak, fried roasted or stewed...oh! Food, wonderful food,
marvelous food, glorious food.'
Lionel Bart was 28 when he wrote the book, music and lyrics to OLIVER! based on the 1838 Charles
Dickens classic OLIVER TWIST.

Shwag?
I'm all for finding treasures..and finderskeeperslosersweepers, but it just seemed a little fishy that the Olympic's closing ceremony gift bag would contain a gardening kneeler...plus the stains were a turn off. I have to admit that I pulled the car up next to it and sat there with the door open looking at it and contemplating the possibilities for longer than I should have....and then left it at the curb.

Old Boy
'Every dog must have a soul, somewhere deep inside.
Where all his hurts and grievances, are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right.
And where his judgement carefully, is hidden from our sight.
A dog must have a secret place, where every thought abides.
A sort of close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.
And when accused unjustly for himself, he cannot speak.
Rebuked, he finds within his soul the comfort he must seek.
He'll love tho he is unloved, and he'll serve tho' badly used,
and one kind word will wipe away the times when he's abused.
Altho his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole.
Because God gave to every dog, an understanding soul.'
