Garden in Late May 2

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. Oops, and Basil and Tarragon

Magic floating flower... on an invisible wire that spins and travels across the yard

One of many lanterns lit by candlelight on summer nights

For F*'n Sakes!!

I was driving along early in the morning the other day in a great 'here comes a long weekend!' mood and then saw THIS. Downer!
It's later than I think - sheesh. My whole life began zooming thru my mind, which is not good when you're behind the wheel, and I put Five for Fighting's '100 years' on repeat, further adding to the gloom, since I'm closer to 100 than 15..way to ruin a day. It's LATER than I THINK...and it's later than YOU think as well...cripes...and then I remembered something that saved the day...it's TWO WHOLE HOURS earlier in Los Angeles! Think about that one Rev.

Fresh from the Garden

I began growing lettuce last summer in a wooden wine crate lined with newspaper and a good potting soil. Of course I planted way too much and was giving away bags of it to the post lady and other friends and perfect strangers walking dogs past the house, and by mid July couldn't look another salad in the face. There is now arugula growing in the wine crate (just two plants) and my lettuce crop, newly rotated is much smaller this season. There's something wonderful about stepping out the back door, colander in hand and picking your own lettuce for salads and sandwiches. And other than for photo ops, it's kept way up high and out of the bunnies reach.

it ain't over til it's over.....

counting Florida and Michigan, she's got 51,000 more votes than the young Senator from Illinois who did what exactly in the Senate? I just can't remember....she's won all of the large states..so, delegates/shmelegates...should she drop out, and with her tenacity, it's doubtful...how much of that popular vote will swing towards McCain? Forge ON Hillary. What's interesting is that with all of the hype, she's still winning the popular vote, she's still collecting campaign funds, she's still out there being heard.

The no-good, very-bad day with a surprising twist

A treasured friend asked me to hold her hand for a cervical biopsy yesterday. We sat in the room semi-nudie (she not me) for about a half hour waiting for her gynie, reviewing the instruments of torture left out for us to peruse and noticed not a drop of xylocaine. This was both perplexing and dismaying. I did my best to get her to cut and run..that I'd sneak her out a side door and we'd drive and drive and never look back, but to her credit, she wanted this over with. Finally her young dr arrived, questioned her knowledge of the upcoming procedure and allowed us both to watch some true reality tv of her entire cervix in living color. Oh, there'd be no anesthetic...seems it's more painful than the procedure, or he must've read somewhere, not having a cervix of his own to experiment on. And then the miracle...there was nothing to biopsy! There we were holding hands, being nervous, and hoping for a commercial on the tv (me not she), and were told to come back in four months (she not me). It was amazing. All of that anxiety (both of us) and then a happy dance to the parking lot. These were the only non x-rated photos I could take of the day's event.
